General Description:-
This trail starts at the car park of the Diamond Creek YMCA. It winds it way along the Diamond Creek and the Hurstbridge train line crossing both on several occasions. It passes through Eltham and continues on until it meets up with the Main Yarra Trail in Tempelstowe. The trail surface in made of asphalt and concrete with then when it crosses the Yarra river in turns in to a gravel path for the final section. It is cutie a pretty ride with sections of open grass land as well as medium density bush. The ride is relatively flat with only one 500m long climb that can easily be completed with out having to get out of your seat. This is a great ride to do with children as there is plenty of things fro them to stop and do along the way.
Highlights include:-
Eltham North Adventure Playground
Located at approximately the half way point this is a great place to stop for a break. Kids can run wild in the playground or you can stop for a bite to eat at one of the many picnic tables. Public toilets are also located near the playground.
Edandale Farm
Just across the river from the Eltham North Adventure playground is the Edandale community farm. It has a large range of farm animals to view and interact with. There is also many displays on how to live more harmoniously with the natural environment.
Eltham train bridge
At about 7km you will ride under the Eltham Train Bridge. This bridge was built in 1902, it is predominately made of wood and is the only wooden bridge still in use in the Melbourne train network today.
Diamond Valley Railway
The Diamond Valley Railway is open every Sunday and riding on the miniature trains is a delight you are a young child or a kid at heart.
